Joy Run #48: Summer 🌞

Ready, Set, Go!

Well done for making it through the heatwave!

Runs were tricky and sticky, but you still found a way. Go you!

This week, we’re celebrating the height of summer and the subtle and dramatic shifts in nature that occur throughout the year.

Run with the season, not against it.

This Week’s Run Theme: Summer 🌞

The Japanese concept of kisetsukan (季節感), meaning "sense of the seasons," involves a deep awareness and appreciation for the unique beauty found in each season.

In Summer, that means:

☀️ The sun’s restorative rays on your back as you run

🆒 Shade that feels like a little gift every time you find it

🌓 Evening light that lingers long enough for one more mile

🌺 A reason to stop and smile at the world in full bloom

🌅 Golden hour runs as the sky melts into pink and gold

Summer doesn’t rush - why should you?

Let your runs be a way of soaking it all in. The light, the warmth, the smells, the stillness, the colours, the life.

Notice what’s blooming, what’s buzzing, what’s glowing.

This season is about basking in the little things - and you don’t have to go far to find them.

So, this week, run with summer. It won’t last forever. That’s what makes it so sweet.

As always, don’t forget to share your run pics on Instagram, tagging in Joy Runs! 📸

Feel Good Run: ‘Life Is Brutal. Running Helps’

Joy Runners of Instagram will likely be familiar with Marcus Skeet, AKA Thehullboy.

The 17-year-old who faced despair – and ran the length of Britain.

What started as a series of social media posts about his mile a day, soon gathered the support of other runners, including Russ Cook.

Fast-forward to today and after 58 days, he’s become, the youngest person to run the length of the UK – 874 miles. Plus £150,000+ raised for Mind!

What an incredible achievement and story - well worth a read!
